The LKSC Regatta is the fun way fly competitions and improve your cross-country skills!
There's little more fun than chasing your friends around the sky for an afternoon and Lake Keepit Soaring Club's annual Regatta is a friendly and informal cross country event to introduce pilots to the fun of cross country flying in competition.
The regatta is also a mentoring event where coaching, team flying and mentoring is encouraged around AAT tasks. If you are an early cross-country pilot, you can be matched up with someone who can show you way as you compete together as a team, either in a two seater or in a lead-and-follow in two seaters. Only the slowest time of the pair is scored, so it is in the interest of the more experienced pilot to coach and assist right throughout the flight. In previous years, this has provided some of the funniest flying experiences around, especially for those listening on the radio.
Teams can be organised to work together planning their tasks, debriefing and analysing traces to improve their performance.
This is a great opportunity to introduce budding cross country pilots to competition type AAT flying, while not getting caught up in all the formal competition hoo-hah. The regatta is run in a low key and relaxed way, all the while making sure we all have fun.
We like to get two seaters involved, so you're welcome to organise a few pilots from your club to share a two seater.
Briefing session are run each morning where one of the experienced pilots will talk on a topic of interest and to mentor less experienced pilots. So come along and learn from the best. Entries are restricted to 30 gliders (due to tug availability etc).
